Breaking Down Boudoir 2016
On Monday I shared a classy boudoir inspired look that is right in line with the spring trend. Today’s look is another variation of that look. Before I jump into my outfit, I want to talk a bit about how to make trends work for your personal style. When it comes to breaking down trends, it’s important to look at the trend as a whole and then figure out how it could work for you. Fashion is art and art is subjective. So, using the boudoir trend (that I love oh-so-much) as an example, let’s dive in. Here are some runway looks from Givenchy, Calvin Klein and Celine.

These three designers have showcased chemises, dressing gowns and lace details as their take on the trend. But how does this translate into real life? That’s where your own imagination and creativity comes in. If we look at Monday’s post, you can see that I was influenced by the lace detail along with the floaty and sheer fabric. For today’s post, I was inspired by the shapes in the above looks – mainly the center look from Calvin Klein. I love the stitching in the bosom to define the curve. Couple that with the sweet straps from the Givenchy look and the bold black from the Celine look and you have the basis of today’s outfit. I decided to take it one step further with the sex appeal with a bustier – a true boudoir item. Paired with a wide leg trouser (that borders on menswear) and ta-da! My interpretation of the boudoir trend – part 2.
We need to remember that fashion is about having fun – and showcasing your style. As plus size women, we can absolutely stay on trend and be just as stylish as our straight size sisters! I hope this inspired you to look at trends and runway in a different way.
