Boho Chic

I have a pretty clear aesthetic. Boho isn’t a part of that, usually. But as I am dedicated to bringing you all the best looks I can – I took a leap and gave boho a chance. Turns out, I love it! I made boho as chic as possible by not mixing colors. This is a pretty monochromatic look, but at the same time is undeniably bohemian and perfect to wear to any spring/summer music festival. Plus size boho is hard to get right, so I hope this inspires you. *Also – this entire look was achieved for less than $100 – including shoes and handbag!

Most of this look is from Charlotte Russe – they’ve recently launched a plus collection, and let me tell you… I was pleasantly surprised! For fabrics that are traditionally non-stretchy (like these palazzo pants, for example) you’re going to want to size up, whereas the stretch cotton and jersey items fit like a dream in your normal size. The line is comprised of two looks: glam and boho.

What I most love about this line is that Charlotte Russe is a popular store with teens. Like Forever 21, they put out trendy, cute clothing at a remarkably low price. Charlotte Russe Plus might be the most important line to come out in years. I can remember being a plus size teen (I’ve been plus size for as long as I can remember) and going shopping with my friends was a nightmare. We would go into straight sized stores where nothing fit me, so I hung back and politely gave my opinion when a friend would pop out of the changing room. And when it was my turn, I would go into the one terrible, awful plus size store to shop, and my friends would kind of hang around while I shopped alone. Nothing was ever cute, trendy, young… and it always left me feeling embarrassed and isolated. Shopping is girl-bonding time and feeling like you don’t belong fuels body confidence issues. I know most of us, as adults look at lines like this one and feel like it’s a bit too young for us to wear today. Fair enough. But as a plus size blogger I hold very strong opinions on body confidence (you should have it) and when those negative views come from (the second as a teen/tween when you’re told something is “wrong” with you). Lines like Charlotte Russe Plus and Forever 21 Plus make it so that plus size teen girls now have a place to shop with their friends, as equals. No isolation. No embarrassment. No feeling like you don’t belong. I do what I do here every day as my attempt to cure self-esteem and self-hatred and body issues by taking risks and showing how beautiful and amazing fashion can be. If one less fashion line for me means that there’s a new generation of girls growing up who don’t have to endure the shaming my generation went through… then I’m all for it.
