Today is my birthday. And, as I think most people do, I spent it reflecting on the past year. Last year was a challenging one, with highs and lows. I lost people I loved very much. I grew my business and was able to achieve a lot of goals I had for myself. I traveled a lot more and learned so much. The absolute highlight, though, was being selected by Vanity Fair for this amazing campaign, #WomenWhoDo. Today’s blog post isn’t about the past, however. It’s about the future. I
I’m a big fan of resolutions and of celebrating New Year’s Eve. There’s something to liberating in intentionally taking time to examine your life and your direction and allowing yourself to make changes or improvements if need be.
I think a lot of people dislike the New Year’s Eve resolution bit because more often than not, the resolutions fail and it starts the year off in a negative way. I mean, you can’t feel successful and capable if 3 days in, you’re already failing, ri
Whether you’re staying at home for the holidays, or traveling like I am, it can be a pretty stressful time. Of course it’s wonderful to spend time with friends and family – or enjoy the peace and quiet if you’re solo – it’s still important to make sure you’re taking care of yourself! Here are 5 things I think will help you get through all of the Christmasy activities while keeping your sanity in check. Fancy Lip Balm
I know it might seem a bit silly, but I always feel a bit
Today, December 15, is International Tea Day. Growing up Canadian, tea was a part of my every day life for as long as I can remember. My grandmother and I had afternoon tea every day after school. She’d put the kettle on and get out her dainty tea cups with matching saucers and make sure she had Madelines (half dipped in chocolate, of course). If you’ve been a longtime reader of SG, you know how I feel about the transformative power of fashion. A swimsuit that turns you into a gladiator, a skirt that makes you a princess… and now, a blazer that changes you into a superhero. It’s no secret that this year has been the hardest one of my life – from a terrifying car accident (that I am thankful everyday I walked away from) to breaking up with a friend. From the loss of my husband’s grandmother and more recently, the lo
During some downtime this week with Husband, we watched some re-runs of our favorite show, Modern Family. In the episode, “Queer Eyes, Full Hearts“, Haley Dunphy has a job interview. Quickly, she is brushed off and walks out of the office. Later in the episode, we see her back in the office, she brings all of the goods and ultimately lands the job. Her character is routinely brushed off – she’s cute, airy, and presumably unintelligent and ditzy. She tries and fails over and a
I can hardly believe that just last month designer Jennyvi Dizon of Dizon Couture and I got together to talk about her runway show during New York Fashion Week in February.
She would create one plus gown for the show.
And I was going to be the one to wear it.
I let out a squeal that shattered windows. Me. Crystal. Walking in a runway show in New York City! During Fashion Week!
Whhaaaattttttt?! As you can imagine, since then, I’ve been walking on clouds. At the meeting, Jen
